About Us
At Matthew and Williams Boatworks, LLC, we are dedicated to the preservation of wooden boats and traditional craftsmanship. Founded in 2024 by Matthew Low and Seth Williams as the successors of Thomas Boat Repair, we aim to continue to provide high-quality and cost-effective repair services to the Seattle and greater Pacific Northwest area.
Our mission is two-fold:
1. To preserve wooden boat history and traditional craftsmanship. By carrying on the long tradition of boat building and repair in the Pacific Northwest, we aim to maintain and improve the expansive fleet of wooden boats in use today. With a holistic understanding of historical construction techniques and traditional skills, we not only restore and maintain wooden boats, but also aim to share our knowledge to keep the history of Seattle’s waterfront alive.
2. To provide quality craftsmanship and expert solutions. No matter the vessel, we approach each project with logic, creativity, and efficiency. Skilled in both traditional and modern woodworking methods, along with a range of supporting trades, we are equipped to meet a wide variety of needs. Whether it’s a small repair or extensive restoration, our goal is to ensure wooden boats remain reliable, seaworthy, and well cared for.
Our Facilities
Located on the Lake Washington Ship Canal, our Seattle shop features a 5,000-square-foot workshop and over 500 linear feet of dock space for moorage and working slips. Our central location allows for consistent project oversight and efficient above-waterline work while your vessel is in our care. For below-waterline maintenance and repairs, we are able to coordinate haul-outs at independent local boatyards.
